Assembly Bill 2968 - The Donda West Law:

Kanye West moved the audience at the 2008 Grammy Awards with his tribute to his recently departed mother, Donda West. If the campaign spearheaded by his cousin Yolanda Anderson gains momentum, he might be instrumental in moving the U.S. government in passing a medical law as well.

Wilmer Amina Carter, the Assemblywoman representing San Bernadino, Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Bloomington and Muscoy counties, is gunning whole-heartedly for the Donda West Law, as it has been christened.

The bill will go to committee hearings later in March 2008 and is a proposal for a legislation requiring plastic surgery patients to undergo medical clearance from licensed physicians before having a plastic surgery procedure or cosmetic treatment.

Donda West died from complications resulting from a weak heart and a trio of plastic surgery treatments. The procedures were all major and included breast reduction, liposuction and a tummy tuck procedure.

This triumvirate of plastic surgery procedures is usually clubbed together for mommy makeover procedures, which are optimized for mothers who have just delivered as well as mothers who are past their prime.

If the bill is made law, the beauty and plastic surgery industry could very well receive relief when screening patients for surgery. Not only will the level of professionalism increase, but the scope for complications would decrease significantly.

Here’s wishing the Donda West Law good luck!
