Is Therapy A Required Follow Up To Cosmetic Surgery?

In Victoria, Australia, plastic surgeons are discovering an alarming number of patients turning over to the psychiatrist’s couch after a session on the operating table.

The main culprit for this trend is body dysmorphia- the condition that causes people to feel insecure about their bodies and perceived flaws. The disorder saw a surge in numbers earlier in the year and isolated cases surface every now-and-then.

The psychiatrists in Victoria are seeing the disorder affecting 13 to 70-year-olds more than the other age groups, highlighting just how serious the condition is.

One psychiatric clinic in Victoria learned that at least 90 percent of body dysmorphia cases want to have cosmetic surgery and a third of these people go ahead with their wishes.

This is a very bad motivation for plastic surgery of any kind, whether a nose surgery in Pasadena is required or a lower body liposuction in Beverly Hills, as the condition causes the patient to remain dissatisfied with the results of repeated surgery as well. As is common knowledge, repeated surgery in the same area- whether required or not, can cause more aesthetic harm then gain, not to mention the physical deformity that could arise.

For such patients, it is better to get help from a specialist in BDD first before going ahead with a cosmetic surgery in California of any kind.

Visit the Plastic Surgery Institute of California for further help on this condition and cosmetic surgery procedures.
