Botox

We have an option today to change the way we look. It could be for health reasons, or a deformity, and sometimes just a corrective surgery to look better. Plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery has gained wide acceptance and is practiced as any other regular surgery.

Definition of Botox: The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name Botox®, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also suggested that Botox is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.

There is no harm in wanting to look young and better, though we have celebrities who choose to hide it. The inception of Botox happened somewhere in the late seventies. It was first researched and developed by an ophthalmologist and was first used to treat the condition 'lazy eye'. Only towards the end of the eighties was Botox used for cosmetic purposes. Botox is actually the purified product produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. This procedure is so widely used is because it is a simple injection which has no ‘down time’, no healing time and leaves no scars. You can look good within minutes. Administration of the injection is just a matter of a few minutes, and it has proved successful and satisfactory in 90% of the cases.

Just a word of caution, people who suffer from neurological diseases or pregnant and nursing women should not use Botox injections.
